Pakistan Peoples Party Patriots Punjab Secretary Information Naveed Chaudhry said this while addressing a press conference here on Thursday.
He said that inflation would increase to 12 percent and trade deficit would be doubled because country required iron-bars, cement and other inputs for reconstruction of quake-affected areas.
He said development fund of Rs 270 billion would be spend in affected areas while all development schemes in other parts of the country would come to a standstill.
He further said the government could not be able to fulfil its commitment of providing electricity and clean water to all villages and towns of the country till 2007.
He asked the government to avoid solo-flight and take the opposition or the parliament into confidence for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of quake-hit areas.
Naveed Chaudhry said now a land scam would hit the investors, because land mafia, who had collected more than Rs 500 billion from the people by raising the prices of land, now planning to convince the investors to sell out their land on throw-away price because Islamabad and its adjacent areas were "dangerous" and in the quake-range.
He said that present regime had pushed the opposition to wall and even civilians were not allowed to do rescue activities and entire responsibility was put on the Army. If it failed to come up to the expectation of the people then the institution would lose its credibility.
He suggested the government should constitute an economic committee of the parliamentarians, which should collect funds at home and abroad besides monitoring the rehabilitation and reconstruction work.
To a question, Naveed Chaudhry said the banks had refused to establish a relief account of the PPP otherwise we could have collected maximum funds.
Former Federal Minister for Law Malik Mukhtar Ahmed Awan, Khalid Hanif Lodhi, Khurshid Ahmed Khan, Habibullah Shakir, Khwaja Rizwan Alam, Tariq Raza Khan attended the conference.
